Mamma Mia

I have to say that the screen adaptation of Mamma Mia is not all its cracked up to be. The stage version of this musical is great - much better than the movie, especially since the people in it can actually sing, unlike Pierce Brosnan. Its very much a chick flick - all about love and marriage, etc. Just in case you women out there who are in relationship think you might get the significant male in your life to take you to see the movie, give up now. It is not going to happen. Also, heads up (or should I say "eyes closed") - an old guy's naked butt appears for a second... and there are also some other suggestive moments. I am a lover of musicals, so I enjoyed the music in this, but the acting, staging, pacing, etc. were lacking and I'd had enough by the time it was over. Overall, I think this movie was good, not great. It doesn't hold up to the greatness that is Hairspray. :)

The Dark Knight

Okay, I have been a big fan of Batman Begins, but The Dark Knight tops it. It was so awesome! The best movie I've seen in a long time. It is very dark and scary - you should not take the kiddos - but it is a very, very good movie. Its themes and acting illustrate sound principles of good vs. evil. Evil doesn't play in this movie and that is why it is very dark; but the sense of humor throughout the film keeps it from being depressing.

I would have to admit that Christian Bale is very hot and that is also why I like this movie. :)

Catching up

So I haven't written in a while... not much to say. Right now I'm watching one of my favorite movies of all time - You've Got Mail. It always makes me feel good. Right now I'm at the part where they're at the party and she realizes he's Joe Fox - her nemesis. Oh here she goes taking food off his plate and putting it back on the buffet. Classic. Nothing beats Tom & Meg.

Last weekend I went to see Mamma Mia. It was great!! So funny - just hilarious and entertaining. It was my first time at Bass Hall - much fun.

I've started reading these new books about a girl bounty hunter. My friends recommended the Stephanie Plum books and at first I didn't think I would like them, but after Grandma shooting the chicken at dinner, I was hooked! Hilariously funny! I'm on book two... is she going to go for Joe Morelli or Ranger? Hmmm...

Okay, now its at the part where they try to avoid each other - so cute. Now he rescues her at the grocery - talks the cashier into letting her use a card instead of cash. Why would the cashier make her go to another line after scanning it all? How stupid is that? I've always wondered about that part - but that's what makes the movie relateable - it's stupid stuff that just happens...

I'm also noticing how pieces of her apartment in the movie look like mine. I've always liked her apartment... especially the books everywhere, which is the main thing that's like my apt.

It's school supply season and one of my favorite times of year to go into any store that sells them. I have a weird affection for school supplies. Paper, pencils, crayons, scissors, folders, binders, Elmer's, Scotch tape, etc. One of my favorite lines in the movie is where he emails her that he would send her bouquets of sharpened pencils if he knew her address. I honestly love that idea!!!!! Seriously, I was in Target today and perused the school supply section for a while. I purchased a set of dry erase markers... but I don't have a dry erase board. :) The markers were pretty okay? There is even a purple one! Maybe I'll take them to work. But I don't have a dry erase board there either. I guess this means I will be forced to purchase one - like for the fridge or something. Cool - another reason to look at school supplies!!!! (Yes, this was my plan all along).

Okay, I've got to go. Maybe next post I'll write about my current obsession with SYTYCD. Yeah, go ahead - Google it. :)
